Lauri

Woerden

Lauri is Laurum, today Woerden in the Netherlands, a fort on the road along the Rhine between Leiden and Utrecht. Roman finds here begin around 50, and the fort itself dates from Flavian times; its first garrison was a cohort of volunteers, and after the middle of the second century a cohort of Breuci from Pannonia. On the map the parchment is torn right after the name: at least one more letter must have followed, since the dot that ends the name survives beyond the tear.
