Ancient writers never mention a Lavinium in Calabria; they know only Laus, a Greek city on the river Lao at the border between Lucania and Bruttium. The map's Lavinium may even be a copying accident, the name Laus run together with the distance figure beside it. The station has been placed at Laino Borgo, at Scalea or at Santa Maria del Cedro, but none of these sites has settled the question.
