Lederata

Ram

Lederata was a fort at Ram on the Danube in Serbia, by the crossing where, by one view, Trajan threw his first bridge of boats over the river for his war against the Dacians; the river is wide here, and an island links the two banks. Roof tiles of a legion and a late Roman garrison of mounted archers are recorded. Older research placed the fort on the opposite bank, at Banatska Palanka. The map sets Lederata ten Roman miles, about fifteen kilometres, from Viminacium.
