Lechi

Lechaion · Λέχαιον

Lechi is Lechaeum, the harbour of Corinth on the Corinthian Gulf, which around 450 BC was joined to the city by a pair of long walls. The Greek historian Xenophon mentions its ship sheds, and there were sanctuaries of Poseidon and of Aphrodite. The inner harbour basin, now largely silted up, can still be made out beside an outer harbour, and a large early Christian basilica stood here. On the map the letter c in the name is so formed that it might almost be read as a t.
