Lepavist

on road Brigetio-Aquincum

Listen to the story

Lepavist is a puzzling name on the road from Brigetio towards Aquincum, the Roman Budapest. The letters are clear, but the ending may be a copyist's slip for fl, short for flumen, river, so the station may once have been named after a stream. Older research placed it at Puszta Billyeg, others by the Danube near Füzitő. The map sets Lepavist five Roman miles from Brigetio and thirteen from Gardellaca.
