Leucopetra

Punta di Pellaro · Capo dell`Armi (Pt)

Leucopetra, the White Rock, is the cape of Capo dell'Armi near Reggio di Calabria, at the toe of Italy. Like other white cliffs along these coasts, its pale stone guided sailors on the route from Greece to southern Italy and Sicily, and a small place of the same name lay there, where ships waited for a favourable wind before sailing round the mountains of the toe. On the map the name is written out in the sea, below the same name on land, and it is not clear what the mapmaker meant by it.
