Leusino

Panik on R. Trebišnjica

Leusino, the Roman Leusinium, was a large settlement on the road from Salona to Dyrrachium, at Panik on the Trebišnjica in Herzegovina, an area of some twenty hectares now drowned by a reservoir. Excavations there uncovered a farm villa full of tools and a luxurious villa with frescoes and mosaics, among them Orpheus, two bath houses and a cross-shaped prayer room of the late third century, among the oldest Christian traces in the region. On the map the start of the next stretch is missing, lost where one sheet of parchment meets the next.
