Leminco

Chambéry

Leminco is Lémenc on the edge of Chambéry, a place of the Allobroges on the road from Vienne to the Little Saint Bernard. A charter of 1025 still calls it the villa Lemensis, from which the modern name comes. The ending of the name, incum, is typically Celtic, as in Agedincum, today Sens, or Aquincum, today Budapest. The list of places compiled in Ravenna garbles it as Lenicium. Some older scholars put the station in Chambéry itself, others at Saint-Genis.
