Laurento

Tor Paterno

Listen to the story

Lavrento is Laurentum, near Tor Paterno on the flat, sandy coast near Ostia, where legend placed the palace of King Latinus, who received Aeneas. Cato the Elder even gives the size of the land Latinus granted the Trojans: two thousand seven hundred iugera. The name was said to come from laurel trees; in imperial times villas lined this shore, among them that of Pliny the Younger, and wild boar roamed the woods.
