Road station

Larice XXIIII

Listen to the story

The second of three nameless hooks on the road from Ad Silanos over the Alps to Virunum marks another lost station. It is usually matched with Larix, the larch, a stop that a Roman register of routes lists on the same road over the Pontebba pass, twenty-four Roman miles before Santicum, the Roman Villach. On the map itself nothing is written here: both the name and the distance have to be borrowed from that register.
