Larinum

Larino

Listen to the story

Larinum, now Larino, stood on a ridge above the valley of the Biferno, a town of the Frentani on the edge of Apulia that struck its own coins from the third century BC. Its remains include walls, baths, an amphitheatre and mosaics. Larinum was the home of Aulus Cluentius, whom Cicero defended in 66 BC in a lurid family case of alleged poisonings, driven, as Cicero told it, by Cluentius's own mother.
