Latro

Krivina

Latro is a slip for Iatro, the Roman fort of Iatrus at the mouth of the river Yantra, near today's Krivina in Bulgaria, nine miles, about thirteen kilometres, east of Novae on the Danube road. A late Roman list of garrisons records a unit of mounted shield-bearers there, and the Greek historians Procopius and Theophylact both mention it. The map gives sixteen miles onward to Trimamio, while the Roman register of routes passes instead through Scaidava, between Batin and Mechka.
