Ceroni
Kapraina · Κάπραινα
Ceroni is Chaeronea in Boeotia, near Kapraina in Greece, where in 338 BC Philip of Macedon defeated the Athenians and Boeotians and became master of Greece; a stone lion still marks the grave of the fallen Thebans. Here too the Romans under Sulla crushed the army of Mithridates, and Pausanias saw two trophies of that victory but none of Philip's. The town honoured a sceptre said to be Zeus's own, and was known for scented oils and salves made from flowers.
