Cerelis
Cirella Vecchia [4]
Listen to the story
Cerelis is the Cerilli of the Greek geographer Strabo, a small town near the river Lao, placed at Cirella Vecchia purely because the names match, since no remains have confirmed it. The poet Silius Italicus lists it among the towns of the south in the war against Hannibal. The map's forty Roman miles on to Clampetia are too long for a single stage; a station, perhaps a shrine of Hercules, seems to have dropped out.
