Batua
Budva
Batua is Budva on the coast of Montenegro, the Greek Bouthoe, a harbour town known to Greek geographers from early times. Legend made Cadmus its founder: driving an ox-cart, he reached the Illyrians so quickly that the town was called Bouthoe, from the Greek for swift oxen; others said he named it after Buto in Egypt. Its cemetery has yielded fine Hellenistic jewellery, tools, weapons and grave stones of the third and second centuries BC. The map's Batua probably began as a misread u, and the map swaps Budva's place with Ulcinj.
