Road station

Varis

bei Povija?

Varis, probably from a name Varae, was a post station on the road from Narona to Scodra, perhaps near Povija in Montenegro, where Roman milestones mark the start of a difficult mountain crossing on the left bank of the Zeta. A Roman register of routes leaves it out, counting eighteen miles straight from Anderba to Sallunto; the map, with Varis in between, counts six and eleven, seventeen in all.
