Road station

Batitas

Batitas was a stop on the road that ran from the Euphrates through the desert to Hatra. Its distance is a puzzle: the map gives a figure of twelve Roman miles, about eighteen kilometres, but name and number stand so far apart that no one can tell whether it belongs to the stretch from here to Alaina or to the one beyond Alaina. The Ravenna list writes Ibatitas, and the site has been placed at el Kseba.
