Bassianis

Donji Petrovci

Bassianis is Bassiana, a Roman town at Donji Petrovci in Serbia, on the road from Sirmium to Taurunum. It probably became a self-governing town under Hadrian and a colony under Caracalla, whose birth name was Bassianus; yet the town's name is probably older, from the people who lived here before the Celts. A late Roman list names a state weaving works at Bassiana, later moved to Salona. In 468, as the Gothic historian Jordanes tells, Dengizich, a son of Attila, came to Bassiana and plundered its lands.
