Resinum
Risan
Resinum is Rhizon, today Risan at the head of the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro, a town that traced its founding back to Cadmus and Harmonia. It sided with Rome before the fall of the Illyrian king Gentius and was rewarded with freedom from tribute, though it had to accept a Roman garrison; later it became a Roman colony, the Colonia Iulia. Excavations since 2001 have uncovered the residence of an Illyrian noble, Hellenistic houses, bronze handles with masks of the river god Achelous, and a Roman villa with mosaic floors of the second century.
