Ricciaco

Dalheim

Ricciaco, the estate of Riccius, was a halt on the road from Trier to Metz, and is now usually identified with the Roman village of Dalheim in Luxembourg. Dalheim was founded as a staging post when the road was built under Augustus, and after the revolt of the Treveri in 69 and 70 it grew into the economic and religious centre of the district. Germanic raids devastated it in 260 and in the following years; a smaller station rebuilt afterwards was destroyed around 355. Older research had looked to Ritzing or Remich. On the map the road makes a sharp turn on the way to Caranusca.
