Reuessione
St-Paulien
Revessione is Saint-Paulien, the chief town of the Vellavi, whom Caesar already names; the Greek geographer Ptolemy calls it Ruessium. Later the bishops moved to Anicium, today Le Puy, though the historian Gregory of Tours still calls Saint-Paulien the city of the Vellavi and Le Puy a mere place. An inscription near Saint-Paulien records an imperial heir restoring roads and bridges that had collapsed with age, and several milestones around it count leagues from the town. On the map, the start of the figure onward is damaged, so the number can be read in two different ways.
