Ricina

Recco

Listen to the story

A stain or hole in the parchment just below Ricina seems to have been there already when the copyist of around 1200 wrote the name, which is why it sits above the road instead of on it. Ricina is usually taken for Recco on the Ligurian coast, but the map's seven Roman miles from Genoa fall short, since Recco lies about twelve, some eighteen kilometres, away; one proposal reads twenty instead and looks for Ricina at Rapallo.
