Vico augusti

Henchir-Sidi-bou-Seba (Barrington) · Sidi Bu Kahila (Miller)

Vico Augusti, the village of Augustus, was a station on the road that climbed the Bagradas valley from Carthage and then turned towards Hippo Regius; by the map's own figures it lay eighty-three Roman miles from Carthage. The site is placed at Henchir Sidi bou Seba, though older research chose the ruins of Sidi Bu Kahila, where a bridge of Trajan crosses the river Beja. The Ravenna list garbles the name to Vico Austi. Seven miles separate it from Picus on one side and from Teglata on the other.
