Viciano

SW Naissus, near Vučitrn

Listen to the story

Viciano may hide Ulpiana, the great Roman city near Gračanica in Kosovo, later renamed Iustiniana Secunda under Justinian: older research read the map's name as a slip for Ulciano, a garbled Ulpiano. Others place Vicianum as a separate station near Vučitrn. Ulpiana was a self-governing town with a customs post of the Illyrian frontier, and a road ran from there to Scupi, the Roman Skopje, marked by milestones.
