Via Tiburtina
Via Tyburtina is the Via Tiburtina, the road from Rome to Tibur, today Tivoli, which beyond Tivoli continued as the Via Valeria across the Apennines towards the Adriatic. It crossed the Anio twice, first by the narrow Ponte Mammolo, thought to be old, and then by the Ponte Lucano beside the tomb of the Plautii. Before the tenth milestone the ancient paving survives, three and a half metres wide. On the map the road reaches only as far as the springs of Ad Aquas Albulas, sixteen Roman miles, about twenty-four kilometres, out of Rome.
