Via Praenestina
Via Prentina is the map's garbled spelling of the Via Praenestina, the road from Rome to Praeneste, today Palestrina. Its first stretch, as far as Gabii, was once called the Via Gabina, and Gabii's quarry, says the Greek geographer Strabo, supplied more building stone to Rome than any other. Past the ninth milestone the road crosses a valley on the Ponte di Nona, where one bridge of seven arches is seventy-two metres long. On the map the road reaches Gabii after twelve Roman miles, about eighteen kilometres, and runs on only as far as Treba.
