Via Lavicana

Via Lavicana is the Via Labicana, spelled with a v as Livy also writes it. It left Rome through the gate now called Porta Maggiore, where two aqueducts crossed it, and led past the old colony of Labici, founded in 418 BC, to join the Via Latina. Labici lay about fifteen miles out, beside the road; in 1888 the village of Lugnano renamed itself Labico, misleadingly, since the ancient town lay elsewhere. The Labicana and the Latina met at a crossroads that the map calls Compitum Anagninum.
