Via Laurentina

The Via Laurentina is drawn on the map, though its name is not written there: the road running south from Rome towards Laurentum on the coast. It branched off the road to Ostia between the second and third milestones, and the map's twelve and six Roman miles bring it, as they should, to Lavinium, today Pratica di Mare, about eighteen miles out. Pliny the Younger describes the way to his seaside villa near Laurentum: one could take either the Laurentina or the road to Ostia, leaving them at the fourteenth or the eleventh milestone. Its exact course is still debated.
