Via Salaria
Via Salaria, the Salt Road, is written on the map between Fidenae and Rome. It took its name from the salt that the Sabines fetched from the salt pans at the mouth of the Tiber and carried inland, and it was one of Rome's oldest trade routes. Under Augustus it was extended through Antrodoco and Ascoli all the way to the Adriatic. Along its first miles outside the city lay many early Christian catacombs, among them that of Priscilla. On the map the roads around it are confused: a line to Tivoli seems to be wrong, and a distance figure is missing.
