Vico Iuliani

Kasrel Aschur (Miller) · (between Tipasa and Hippo Regius) (Barrington)

Listen to the story

Vico Iuliani, the village of Julianus, lay in Numidia on the road from Hippo Regius, Saint Augustine's see, now Annaba in Algeria, towards Tipasa, and Augustine himself mentions it in one of his letters. The map puts it twenty-five Roman miles, about thirty-seven kilometres, from Hippo, though the real distance seems nearer thirty, and eighteen from Tipasa. Attempts to pin it to ruins such as Ksar el Achour remain unproven.
