Vico Virginis, the Village of the Virgin, was a station on the Ligurian coast road near Vado, perhaps at Savona or, judging by its distances, inland near Altare. Apart from the map, only the list of places compiled in Ravenna knows the name, so the entry probably comes from a late stage of the map. Which virgin gave the village its name is not known. At Savona, the church of Santa Maria di Castello stands where a Roman fort once stood, with an ancient architrave built into its doorway.
