Tucca fines Affrice et Mauritaniae
Henchir el Abiod (Barrington)
Tucca fines Affrice et Mauritaniae, Tucca, the border of Africa and Mauretania: the map marks the frontier with a town rather than with the river Ampsaga, which Augustus had made the boundary and which the map leaves out altogether. Where Tucca lay is disputed. The Roman writer Pliny puts it on the sea at the river Ampsaga, the geographer Ptolemy inland, and so some suppose two towns of that name; the inland one is placed at Henchir el Abiod. Lettering and road line are badly matched here: the whole name sits on the stretch before.
