Sinara

Aşkale

Listen to the story

Sinara has been linked with Sinoria, a stronghold that Mithridates of Pontus built on the border between Greater and Lesser Armenia and used as a treasury; the geographers Strabo and Ptolemy place it on the Euphrates. Other ancient writers give the name as Sinorega or Synhorium, and the Roman register of routes as Sinervas. The station is placed at Aşkale in eastern Turkey. The map counts twenty-two Roman miles from Lucus Basaro and fifteen on to Calcidava.
