Road station

Calcidava

Ilıca

Calcidava was an important station on the army road from Satala to Artaxata, on the upper Euphrates, and the Ravenna list keeps the better form of its name, Chalchidara. One suggestion reads that as a mixed Armenian and Persian word for a holding city, a stronghold, a fitting name for the bulwark of the Karin district, where Byzantine Theodosiopolis later stood. The station is placed at Ilıca. It lay fifteen Roman miles from Sinara, and on the twelve miles on to Autisparate the road crosses a river.
