Iullae
? Çay · Tshai ?
Iullae is probably a miswriting of Iuliae, the town the geographer Ptolemy calls Iuliopolis, in Greater Phrygia. The Roman writer Pliny lists its people, the Iulienses, among the communities that belonged to the court district of Synnada, and its coins run from Nero down to Aemilian and Cornelia Supera in 253 AD. Where it lay is uncertain. One view makes it the forerunner of the later bishop's town of Polybotos near Bolvadin, but that lies some way from the road the map suggests, so Çay, where inscriptions and milestones have been found, may fit better.
