Philomelo
Akşehir
Philomelo is Philomelion, at Akşehir in Turkey, founded in the 3rd century BC by a Macedonian ruler named Philomelos. The Greek geographer Strabo sets it in a wide plain north of the Sultan Dağı range, and it stood where the important road east from Ephesus forked towards Dorylaeum and Caesarea. In Cicero's day it belonged to the province of Cilicia, later to Asia, and a Christian community is attested here from the middle of the 2nd century. The twenty-eight miles, about forty-one kilometres, given on to Laodicea are far too few; a station, probably Tyriaion, seems to have dropped out.
