Dorileo

Eskişehir · Şarhüyük

Dorileo is Dorylaeum, an important city of northern Phrygia at Eskişehir in Turkey, on a settlement mound already lived on in Hittite times. Legend named Akamas, son of Theseus, as its founder, while a Dorylaos of Eretria refounded it as a Greek city. Set between two rivers, with pasture and warm springs, it was always a crossroads and a military base: Lysimachus held it before the battle of Ipsus in 301 BC. The map gives it no picture, perhaps for lack of space, and counts twenty-eight miles on to Midaeum where the real distance is eighteen.
