Drubetis

Trajan`s bridge · Turnu Severin

Drubetis is Drobeta, today Drobeta-Turnu Severin on the Danube in Romania; the map uses the popular form of a name that official documents write Drobeta. Roman settlers lived here even before Trajan conquered Dacia, and near the town, after his first war against Decebalus, Trajan built his great bridge across the Danube. Trajan's Column shows the town with a theatre and a large colonnaded building. It became a municipium under Hadrian and a colony in the third century, and its fort was still garrisoned in late Roman times.
