Road station
Dumno
Kirchberg-Denzen (Barrington) · Simmern (Miller)
Dvmno is Dumnissus, a road station in the Hunsrück in Germany, probably at Denzen near Kirchberg, though older research preferred Simmern. Apart from the map, only the poet Ausonius mentions it, around 371, on his journey from Bingen to the Moselle: he passes dry Dumnissus, set in thirsty country on every side, and then Tabernae, watered by a never-failing spring, through a landscape where he sees no trace of human cultivation. The map shortens the name to its first syllables.
