Drysiporo

bei Karıştıran

Drysiporo is Drusipara, a Thracian town on the military road from Adrianople to Byzantium; its later name, Mesene, places it at today's Mesinia, east of Karıştıran. Saint Alexander of Rome was martyred here under Maximian, and a splendid church rose in his honour, which the Huns desecrated in 447. Between here and Tzurulum lay the Serene Plain, where Licinius defeated his rival Maximinus, and a bridge of seven arches carried the road. A stele showing Hermes, a marble sarcophagus and coins have been found.
