Colchis

Yukarı Huh

Colchis, here, is not the Black Sea land of the Argonauts but a small place on the road from Melitene to Amida, which the Ravenna list writes Cholcis and counts to Mesopotamia. It lay on the eastern shore of the lake of Gölcük, at Yukarı Huh, and its district may be the Chalkitis named by the geographer Ptolemy. The map counts sixteen Roman miles from Mazara and thirteen on to Corvilu.
