Cofna

Jifna

Cofna is Gophna, today's Jifna, set in a fertile, low-lying plain ringed by high hills on the road from Jerusalem to Neapolis. It was the chief town of one of the Jewish districts, the Gophnitis, and seems to have been fortified: Cassius took it by storm and sold its people as slaves, and Vespasian later stormed it again. A milestone found nearby counts thirteen miles from Aelia, the Roman colony on the site of Jerusalem.
