Road station

Colatione

Altenmark bei Windischgraz

Listen to the story

Colatione, the Roman Colatio, was a station on the mountain road from Virunum to Celeia, at Altenmarkt near Windischgraz, today Slovenj Gradec in Slovenia, where Roman inscriptions have been found. The road over the Karawanks was probably no more than a mule track, and no Roman register of routes records it. The t of the name is hard to make out and is best seen in a photograph of the map taken in 1888. The map sets Colatio twenty-two Roman miles from Iuenna and sixteen from Upellae.
