Ludd
Luddis is Lydda, the Lod of the Old Testament, today's Ludd. Several roads from the coastal towns to Jerusalem met here, which made it an important place. During the Jewish War the Romans under Cestius Gallus burnt it; rebuilt, it was later known as Diospolis, and later still as Georgioupolis. A Christian community formed here early. The map counts twelve Roman miles from Lamnia, not from Azoton as the line might suggest, and twelve each on to Caesarea and Amavante.
