Road station

Colchion

~ Ağrı

Listen to the story

Colchion sounds like Colchis on the Black Sea, but this station lay in Armenia, on the road from Artaxata to Satala. The geographer Ptolemy lists a Colchis in the district of Thospitis, perhaps the same place, and the Ravenna list writes Cholcis. It is placed near Ağrı in eastern Turkey, while older research suggested Kağızman. The map counts twenty-four Roman miles to each of its neighbours, Chadas and Raugonia.
