Raugonia

Listen to the story

Raugonia sits on the roads of the Armenian highlands, twenty-four Roman miles from Colchion. Its site is unknown; Bayazit and Parnawut have both been suggested. Twenty-four miles lead on to Hariza and thirty-nine to Catispi, and a branch seems to have turned off towards Tigranocerta. The road beyond is suspect, though. Its names and figures match those of the next route leading down from Artaxata, so the copyist may have drawn the same stretch twice, and it is uncertain how, or whether, the mapmaker joined Raugonia to Isumbo.
