Charra

Near Samarra in Iraq, ruins by Schnas are thought to mark Charra, a place in north-eastern Babylonia close to Artemita. The Greek historian Diodorus speaks of the villages of Karai, four days' march from Sambana on the border of Susiana, and the historian Ammianus writes Charcha. On the map the name and its figure sit notably clumsily, perhaps because the name straddles two segments of road. The map counts twenty Roman miles from Peloriarca and twenty-four, about thirty-five kilometres, on to Artemita.
