Choba Municipium

Ziama

Choba Municipium, at Ziama on the coast of Algeria between Saldae and Igilgili, was a municipium, a town with its own self-government under Roman law. An inscription found on the spot gives its full title, Aelium municipium Choba, so the rank came from Hadrian or Antoninus Pius, who both bore the family name Aelius. The Roman register of routes lists it as well, and a bishop of the town is named in 484 among those of Mauretania Sitifensis. On the map the first word sits to the left of a road junction, inside the neighbouring stretch, and the junction alone marks where the new stretch begins.
