Monte

Kasbait (Miller)

Monte, from the Latin word for mountain, was a town on the border between Mauretania and Numidia, at Kasbait, and the bishops' list of 484 even counts it to Numidia. Its bishop attended a council at Carthage in 411. Remains of a fort survive, a parallelogram of about forty-five by forty metres, with traces of two large buildings beside it, and many inscriptions from the town are dedications to Saturn, two of them dated AD 157 and 204. On the map a short link joins its road to the road from Ad Olivam; if that link is original, Monte was a crossroads.
