Mopti Municipium

Mons (Barrington)

Where Mopti Municipium, a town with municipal rank in Mauretania Sitifensis, actually stood is disputed. Older research put it at El Uarcha in the rugged Babor range, on the road from Sitifis to Castellum Victoriae, which a string of forts protected; it is now placed at Mons near Cuicul. Bishops of the town are named in 411, 419 and 484. On the map the distance figure for the road onward is written only after the zigzag in the line, at the start of the next stretch.
